The personal side / ZombieMutex

Life, beyond the terminal.

D&D, hiking, cooking, robotics, IoT, mobile engineering, technology and travel. Part personal notebook, part builder's playground, and occasionally a twenty-sided die.

Outside the terminal / Things I'm into

Eight corners of my world.

The parts of life I want to write about here. Some are hobbies, others overlap with engineering. No public calendars, activity logs or invented adventures.

D&D & tabletop

Characters, dice, collaborative storytelling and campaigns that can go gloriously sideways.

The tabletop corner below has a browser-local dice roller and character/story prompts.

Hiking & outdoors

Trails, fresh air, landscapes, nature and getting away from a screen for a bit.

AllTrails and Strava belong with the rest of the social profiles, not in a separate account list.

Cooking

Trying recipes, cooking from scratch, baking and figuring out what makes good food memorable.

Room for personal recipes and kitchen notes, without inventing dishes I haven't posted.

Robotics

Robot builds, motion, sensors, controls, embedded devices and all the bits that have to work together.

An intersection of software, hardware and the joy of making physical things move.

IoT & electronics

Microcontrollers, connected devices, home automation, boards, firmware and hardware experiments.

ESP32, Raspberry Pi, BLE, Zigbee, Thread and device security are all interesting avenues.

Mobile engineering

iOS, Android, Swift, Kotlin, app architecture, security, networking and the little details behind a solid app.

Mobile work and reference implementations also live in the engineering sections of ZombieMutex.

Technology & security

Backend systems, programming, open-source, security research, AI tools and tinkering with new ideas.

The technical blog, labs and Workbench cover the deeper engineering material.

Travel

New places, interesting cities, local culture, food and experiences worth remembering.

A home for actual travel notes and photos as they're published.

A little tabletop chaos

Dungeons & Dragons corner

The same pocket dice roller and creative prompts as before—now part of Life, instead of taking over the main navigation. Characters and stories are ideas, not invented accounts of real campaigns.

A little randomness

Pocket dice roller

d4 through d100, plus advantage and disadvantage for d20 checks. Uses the browser's secure random generator with unbiased sampling. No sign-in, server requests, or saved roll history.

Dice pool

Roll up to twenty dice. Results stay in your browser tab, without an account or tracking.

d20 check

Normal roll, advantage (higher die), or disadvantage (lower die), with a modifier.

Roll mode

Roll history

Nothing rolled yet. Pick a die and give it a go. ✨

Ideas / Not campaign canon

A tabletop notebook, ready for stories.

A few prompts for character ideas, future sessions, and improbable adventures. The actual campaign notes can join later, when there's something real to share.

Character sketchbook

Before the stat block: what does this character want, what do they fear, and what would change their mind?

  • A promise they're struggling to keep
  • A small habit their party would notice
  • A secret that's interesting without stealing the spotlight

Session notes

A simple structure for remembering the moments that turn into stories.

  • The best surprise or dice roll
  • An NPC or clue worth remembering
  • What our party might try next session

Worldbuilding sparks

Tiny starting points that can become a setting, an encounter, or a questionable tavern rumor.

  • A village where every clock runs backward
  • A library that lends memories instead of books
  • A polite mimic that only eats bad reviews

Say hello

Some adventures are better with people.
